This year LYT is twenty. To mark this anniversary, we have invited past members, who are now professionals in the field of theatre, to create an ambitious, collaborative, celebratory piece with our current members. This project reflects the importance of LYT in young people’s lives and will provide a meaningful platform for artistic expression.
Thanks to the award granted by the Arts Council for the Young people, children and education programme activity fund (YPCE), LYT have commissioned production teams to create original short work which will form a a full length theatre piece premiering at the Belltable. The teams will consist of LYT members from 1997 onwards who are now working in the professional locally, nationally and internationally as actors, directors, writers and technicians. Through the theatre-making process, the commissioned teams will help our members develop new skills and be creatively ambitious while underpinning LYT’s ethos of inclusion and social engagement. LYT provides a safe environment for artistic expression and meaningful collaborations between young adults and professional theatre-makers who share similar understanding and interest in being involved in artistic projects. Ciarda Tobin, one of the founders of LYT, will mentor and co-ordinate all the commissioned teams of writers, directors, production & stage managers. The creative teams will share their theatrical experiences with current members and inspire the younger generation of theatre practitioners.
