Limerick Youth Theatre calls for new members – audition on Saturday 1 October 2010

September 2011, Limerick – Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) is recruiting its new members for its 2-year training programme in theatre and performance arts. The audition is scheduled on Saturday 1 October 2010, 11am, The Basement, 73 O’Connell Street, Limerick.

LYT is a company of young performers, dancers, writers, designers, directors, producers and film-makers. LYT was set up in 1997 with a vision of providing a unique opportunity for young people from all backgrounds to cross social/cultural divides through youth drama experiences.

LYT holds weekly workshops with artists and directors on Saturdays from October to June, and presents a full-length production in August after 5 weeks of intensive rehearsals. Besides the summer production, LYT produces shows throughout the year, participates in festivals and collaborates with groups across Limerick.

The requirements to join LYT are:
• be between 16 and 23 years old
• be available for workshops on Saturdays in Limerick
• be willing to devote time to rehearsals, productions
• submit the application form on time
• pass an audition

Previous experience is not necessary. There are only 25 places each year so we like to see how a candidate works in a team. There’s no standing on the spot reciting Shakespeare; the audition is a workshop with group games, improvisation and plenty of room for your imagination.

Thanks to the support of Limerick City VEC, membership is just EURO 200 per year. Full or part-scholarships as well as work placement in the theatre are available.
